Born into a family of artists and musicians, Brooklyn native Tamara P. Carter spent her childhood years immersed in New York City's music, fashion and contemporary art worlds. As an adolescent she was recruited into an international dance troupe, which gave her the opportunity to live in Paris, London, Berlin and Tokyo.
In 2013, Tamara graduated with an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television and has since, written drama series for several networks (HBO, SHOWTIME and FX). She is best known for her work on HBOs acclaimed drama THE LEFTOVERS.
Tamara is a lifetime contributor to the global music and lifestyle publication, Wax Poetics. Premiered by Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers), VICE released Carter’s directorial debut featurette THE PARIS PROJECT (click to watch) to critical acclaim in the summer of 2017. She is currently co-creating and executive producing the series adaptation of Akwaeke Emezi's FRESHWATER (2022) for FX Networks.
Tamara resides at home in Brooklyn.
